Dennis Mill is a Director of photography based in Germany, working internationally on narrative documentaries and commercials.

 

His passion for filmmaking began in high school with short films and experimenting with moving images. After graduation, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt, where he fused technical skills with creative storytelling and shot his first feature film as DOP.

His graduation film FRANKFURT COINCIDENCES received the Hessischer Hochschulfilmpreis. It also gained critical recognition, including a nomination in the “New German Cinema” section at Filmfest München, where it won the Tele5 Audience Award.

Dennis studied cinematography at the renowned Film Academy Baden-Württemberg. (www.filmakademie.de) He was mentored by acclaimed cinematographers such as Birgit Gudjonsdottir, Martin Gressmann, Peter Badel, Kay Gauditz, Thomas Merker, Klaus Merkel, Jolanta Dylewska, Christian Berger, and Slawomir Idziak. During this time, he realized various fictional and documentary film projects across Europe as a DOP.

For his graduate film A BIKE OF A BOY, Dennis was nominated at the Camerimage Festival 2019 and won Best Cinematography at the Wegiel Film Festival. These honors, along with a young talent award from the Hessenfilm Foundation, underline his deep passion for cinematography.

Dennis is driven by the challenge of engaging with new stories and themes. He approaches each screenplay with curiosity and precision, aiming to create a visual concept that enhances the narrative through image and light.

He values the collaborative nature of filmmaking—working with diverse teams and actors, shaping locations to support the story, and embracing evolving technologies.

Through his cinematography, Dennis seeks to amplify the emotional tone of each scene and contribute to storytelling on a visual level. He works closely with directors, not only to shape visual dramaturgy but also to bring new ideas and creative energy to each project.

 

Today, he is based in Frankfurt and is available for projects worldwide.
